Modernization assessment
Know the scope and the cost before the migration starts.
A fixed-price assessment of your Java estate. You get a phased roadmap and a fixed price for phase one, with no commitment to continue.
The short answer
The Ace8 assessment inventories your applications, measures test coverage, scores risk and picks a target platform for each one. You get a phased roadmap with effort ranges and a fixed price for phase one. We agree the scope before we quote the price, so there are no surprises mid-project.
Deliverables
What you receive
| Deliverable | What it contains | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Application inventory | Runtimes, frameworks, dependencies, app servers and open CVEs per application | You see the real estate, including the applications nobody listed |
| Test coverage measure | Coverage per application and the gaps that block safe change | Missing tests set the pace of every later phase |
| Risk score | A score per application on framework age, server coupling, data coupling and criticality | Order of work is decided by risk, not by habit |
| Target platform | A named target per application, such as Tomcat, Spring Boot, Kubernetes or PostgreSQL | Open targets, with no new lock-in |
| Baseline | Performance, licence cost and open CVEs today | The result becomes a number, not an opinion |
| AI-readiness score | Runtime, APIs, tests and data reachability for each application | Shows what blocks AI features and agents |
| Phased roadmap | Phases, effort ranges and dependencies | Each phase can stand on its own |
| Fixed price for phase one | Scope and price written down together | Scope first, then price |
Your side
What we need from you
- Read access to source repositories, or a clone we can analyze.
- Build and deployment documentation, even if it is out of date.
- A list of the applications you believe are in scope.
- Application server versions and licence or subscription figures, so we can compare cost.
- A few hours with the engineers who know the systems.
Timing
How long it takes
Duration depends on how many applications are in scope and how quickly we get access. We give you a date after a short scoping call, before you commit. We do not publish a standard duration because an estate of five applications and an estate of fifty are different jobs.
Pricing
What sets the price of the assessment
The price is fixed once the scope is agreed. Five factors set it.
| Factor | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
| Number of applications | Each one needs its own inventory, coverage measure and score |
| Language and code size | Larger code takes longer to analyze and to review |
| Test coverage | Low coverage means more characterization work to size accurately |
| Target platform | A move to a close relative costs less to size than a change of paradigm |
| Access to your engineers | Fast answers shorten the work. Slow access lengthens it |
Sample
The sample report
A redacted sample report, built on an open-source Java codebase, will show every section above with real output: inventory, coverage, risk score and roadmap. It is in preparation. If you want to see the report format before you decide, ask for it on the form below.
Next step
How the roadmap becomes phase one
- 1
Review
We walk you through the findings and the scores. You can disagree with a score and we will show the evidence.
- 2
Choose the first slice
Usually the application with the best ratio of cost saved to risk taken.
- 3
Price phase one
The fixed price is written into the same document as the scope.
It has a fixed price, quoted after a short scoping call. Five factors set it: the number of applications, language and code size, test coverage, the target platform, and access to your engineers. We agree scope first, then price.
No. The roadmap is yours. Many teams continue, but the assessment is a complete deliverable.
Yes. Missing tests are a finding, and the roadmap includes the work to write them first.
Yes, where the application's data layer is in scope. Oracle to PostgreSQL and warehouse moves are scoped in the same engagement.
One application or one capability, chosen for its ratio of benefit to risk, so you see a real result early.
Know the cost before anything moves.
A fixed-price assessment gives you the inventory, the risk score and a phased plan. Scope and cost are fixed before the migration starts.
